Oral Mother Tongue is the first language that a person learns and develops naturally from childhood through coexistence and social interaction with the people around them. This language is acquired without the need for formal instruction, usually within the family environment, and is essential for the construction of cultural and personal identity.

Did you know that 1.3 billion individuals do not have access to the Scriptures in their own mother tongue? Only 727 languages ​​have the entire Bible translated; this leaves approximately 4478 languages ​​or languages ​​without translations of the Bible. All people should have the opportunity to hear about Jesus, in the language of their hearts. Would you like to do your small part to bring about a change?

Oral Mother Tongue (OMT) is more than just a translation; it is a bridge between worlds, a link between the Creator and the creature. It is about bringing the Word of God to people in their native language, even when 90% do not have access to the complete Bible and two out of three adults will never learn to read.

The OMT DTS will strive to bring life through the Word, telling God’s message with respect, authenticity, and love. We are building a spiritual legacy for future generations by using the power of oral mother tongues to introduce Jesus to every culture, so that all peoples, languages, and nations can glorify God on earth as it is in heaven. OMT DTS, what is it?

DTS OMT is one of the schools with focus here at YWAM Monte das Águias, in which both students and staff will spend time studying specific Bible stories based on each week’s classes in the morning, and will then be translated orally into the mother tongue represented in the group of students or workers.

We will delve deeper into the stories through their cultural and historical context, helping us to understand their message and to know the character of God reflected in them, and then make a personal application that results in a transformation of life.

The DTS OMT will also train students in the practice of basic oral translation of the Bible; during this first time, we will seek to translate and record the Gospel of Luke in audio for the Palamari and Guaraní Kaiua peoples, and during the crusade the recordings will be distributed among the families of these same peoples, so that they can have a portion of the Bible in their native language, especially for those who do not have the ability to read and those who are from oral culture based.

The objective is to give the participant the opportunity to respond to the call to end biblical poverty in the world.
